Set within a massive map with three richly detailed regions and multiple start points, each playthrough provides countless surprises and scares. With dozens of iconic horror movie scenes playing out as places of interest, unique objectives and rewards and secrets, players must start out alone in the dark and make their way towards the center of the map in the hope of achieving extraction. Through the perilous journey, they solve puzzles, encounter fellow survivors and slay hordes of the undead, in this endlessly replayable horror experience. During early access, the game will be regularly updated with new content and features, including the launch of an additional map where the story of the outbreak will further be revealed.
Now a commercial release, in the sequel to the 2011 award-winning Source mod, players start isolated in the dark, find their friends and survive - in a dynamic, endlessly replayable zombie apocalypse. With enemies and map locations inspired by classic zombie movies in a grounded yet terrifying survival story, the game will instill terror into players while offering fresh, tactical gameplay, high-stakes permadeath and intricate combat design that rewards cunning, teamwork and grit.
Each match, you’ll go from shaking solo in the darkness with only a beer bottle, to forming a fully stocked co-op squad with assault rifles and explosives. An ever-present threat remains: if a responder dies, all of their progress is lost. This is co-op with consequences.
Torn Banner Studios and Green Man Gaming are pleased to share the latest development updates for No More Room in Hell 2 - including a 1.1 update which goes live today across PC and consoles, and a first look at the roadmap for the rest of 2026 and beyond.
Launching into 1.0 on 11 August, No More Room in Hell 2 crossed 1 million total players within its first week alone, with peak concurrent players on Steam climbing to over 16,000 - climbing to #4 on Steam's US Top Sellers chart and outranking major AAA releases including Madden NFL, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Marvel titles. The title was the 4th best-selling game on PlayStation 5 in North America for August, seeing player sentiment on Steam reach 90% positive during the same period.
Carrying forward the title’s community-driven evolution to 1.0, the 1.1 update rolls out a wide range of bug fixes and performance optimisations (with particular focus on the console experience to continue refining player experience) alongside new weapon attachments and updates to the Pottsville and Lewiston maps - delivering a wave of new and expanded features just a month after its full 1.0 release.
The Rest of 2026
Our core focus for the rest of this year is for us to strengthen the core experience and add endgame goals. Responder Retirement and Hell Mode both look to offer players of all types motivation to continue improving at the game and achieving new heights. Survival, as our newest mode, is receiving two new maps to help add diversity to player’s experiences. We’ve already improved some of our existing maps in Resupply (1.1) and will continue to with Hospital in the near future!
Along the way, we’ll also be looking to add new weapons that take advantage of some of archetypes and ammo types deserving more options. We’ll continue improving various UX & UI feedback points and ensuring that the game becomes easier to navigate and understand. For those who wish to support us or crave some more status symbols, we’ll have both new paid cosmetic packs as well as free cosmetics as part of upcoming systems like Responder Retirement.
Entering 2027 & Beyond
Next year will see us move beyond these fundamental systems and instead begin to build out our gameplay content further. Objective mode will see its first new map fairly early 2027, with more being planned. Survival will continue to see support, including us investigating what an alternative scenario would look like for the gamemode. Solo Mode will have its own version of progression that allows players to play the game on their own as a separate experience from the cooperative progression.
Similarly, we’ll be expanding our weapon offerings to include new types of weapons not yet seen in NMRIH2 and adding more skills, items, improvements, cosmetics to keep the apocalypse’s sandbox rich with new toys to discover and builds to pursue. This stage of development will still be informed by player feedback, the same way our Early Access period was guided by our tightknit community.
We’ll have more to share in the coming weeks about upcoming releases like 1.2 (targeting October) as well as status updates on features as they reach milestones in development. Thank you to everyone who has been playing, providing their thoughts, guiding other players, and making the apocalypse just a bit better with each other.
As always, stay safe out there!
