Electronic Arts Acquires Mythic Entertainment

Already rumored several months ago, EA today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Virginia-based Mythic Entertainment, known for Dark Age of Camelot and currently working on Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Upon completion of the acquisition, Mythic Entertainment will become EA Mythic, a wholly-owned studio dedicated to developing MMORPGs.

IBM Breaks CPU Speed Barrier

According to Reuters, IBM has developed a transistor that is capable of reaching 500 gigahertz, which is 100 times faster than the highest-end PC processors being sold today. Instead of shrinking the size of the transistor, IBM altered the silicon by adding the element germanium. Ahoy captain, super-fast computers and wireless networks on the horizon!

Minnesota Signs Violent Video Game Bill

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty has signed a violent video game bill into law as SF 785. Under the law, which goes into effect on August 1, 2006, minors under 17 who rent or purchase M- or AO-rated games will be fined $25. Additionally, retailers will be required to post a sign notifying customers of this practice.

Symantec Lawsuit Could Cause Windows Vista Delay

Symantec sued Microsoft on Thursday, accusing it of breach of contract and misappropriation of intellectual property in its incoporation of Veritas technology in Windows Vista. Symantec acquired Veritas last year and is seeking an injunction that would prevent further development, sale or distribution of Vista.

Microsoft and Lucent Trade Barbs in Xbox Patent Suit

Microsoft has filed a countersuit against Lucent Technologies, contending that Lucent infringes upon several Microsoft patents. Lucent originally filed suit against Microsoft this March, alleging that Microsoft was misusing Lucent's patented technology for decoding MPEG-2 video files in the Xbox 360.
