Former ION studio executives to teach classes at UTD.. The spectacular rise and fiery crash of Dallas-based computer game development studio ION Storm were landmark events in the game industry. Now, the two men who piloted ION Storm, John Romero and Tom Hall, have resurfaced in the most unlikely of jobs: college professors. Starting in the fall semester, Mr. Romero, 34, and Mr. Hall, 37, will be instructing computer science majors at the University of Texas at Dallas on the finer points of game programming and design. "We're really excited to teach because we love to teach what we know, and this is the perfect place to do it," Mr. Romero said.

Today
theplatoon.com tossed up an interesting article about that later this month Red Storm will be releasing a new game called The Sum of All Fears "no one even heard of this game until this morning", based on the Tom Clancy book by the same name. There is also a movie scheduled for release on May 31. Here is a clip from the game site at Red Storm "that seems to be closed - replaced with an old title":
"Lead a team of domestic counter-terrorism experts through 11 dangerous missions that span the globe. Formed from the elite of the F.B.I.’s HRT, you have been tapped to perform covert ops in the most dangerous circumstances imaginable. As the commander of this team, you’ll lead your unit into the heat of battle, performing missions ranging from eliminating terrorists to planting bugs, and destroying illegal weapons caches to rescuing hostages. You’ll give them orders in the field and take the point in leading them into combat."..
Head over to theplatoon.com for full article and

Computer game 'Hooligans', developed by Dutch company Darxabre has launched in the UK today, aimed towards the huge adult market for computer games. Less than 1% of such games are rated as 18 by the ELSPA or BBFC rating systems. Clearly, computer games are not just for kids. There is now a massive market for games, which appeal to adults on the basis of their levels of difficulty and challenge, not because the graphic content is of an adult nature. Personally .. i think the ELSPA and BBFC are a bunch of whinebags .. but hey .. thats just me .. Now lets knock the s**t out of the other team ..

This is the game they could not ban. Developed and wholly funded by Dutch fledgling Darxabre, Hooligans - Storm over Europe is essentially a PC CD Rom. Semi spoof on football hooliganism. It is a real-time strategy (RTS) game set now (not in some distant surreal stupid past world) dealing with the real problems of modern day society.

A few days back we tossed up
some screens and artwork from Conflict: Desert Storm, now TTG tossed up a bunch of
new screens from this upcoming title.
Some facts: Based around the events of the Gulf War, Conflict: Desert Storm places you in the midst of real war environments. Highly covert missions take you through hostile environments where only your expertise in stealth, tactics and firepower will ensure success and the safety of your men. Your missions are as unpredictable as they are dangerous; from defending to attacking, you will need to be adept at all aspects of combat. Your assignments will take you from Al Khafji, where you will need to defend the town and slow the advance of the Iraqi invasion, to deep desert on vital scud-hunting missions, right up to Baghdad itself, on highly secretive rescue and assassination operations.
