Genre: 3D Action/Adventure
Publisher: Activision
Developer: Treyarch
Release Date: TBA

Ultimate Spider-Man, at its core, is a re-telling of the classic Spider-Man story with a slightly younger cast and a contemporary spin.

You all know the gist of it by now: a nerdy kid gets bitten by a radioactive spider, gets super powers, and uses both them and his mind to solve crimes while at the same time possessing the ability to upstage just about everyone on Def Comedy Jam without even trying. The Ultimate line of comic books puts the Spidey stories in the here and now, with today’s

PS2/Xbox/PC Preview - 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow'

by Rainier on Jan. 1, 2006 @ 1:30 a.m. PST | Filed under E3 - Post - E3 2005

Genre: Action
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks

Release Date: Q3 2006

In case you missed the memo the first time around, here’s another copy of it:

Pirates Are Cool.

Heck, just go ask Guilty Gear X’s Johnny, or the entire cast of Skies of Arcadia. Pirates are always fun to play as in video games. There’s just something about being able to break all the rules, play dirty, and fight as underhanded as one possibly can whenever one feels like it that translates wonderfully to the genre.

Few pirates are better at all of this than one Jack Sparrow, and he’s going to

PS2 Preview - 'King Of Fighters: Maximum Impact'

by Rainier on Jan. 1, 2006 @ 1:30 a.m. PST | Filed under E3 - Post - E3 2004

Genre: Action/Fighting
Publisher: SNK
Developer: SNK
Release Date: September 14, 2004

Let’s clear one small thing up here, all right? This isn’t really SNK’s first foray into the realm of 3D. Before this, they had the Samurai Shodown games on NeoGeo CD, 64 and Warrior’s Rage, neither of which are worth the considerable effort they take to find; and Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition, an excellent game on extremely rare hardware, which is unfortunately better known for a terrifically botched PSOne port.

So this, King of Fighters: Maximum Impact, is really SNK’s fourth foray into 3D, and the

Xbox 360 Preview - 'Gears of War'

Gears of War

Genre: Action
Publisher: Microsoft
Developer: Epic Games
Release Date: Q1 2006

Going into E3 2005, the game I was most excited about seeing was by far the very impressive Unreal Engine 3-based Gears of War for the Xbox 360, and it sure didn't disappoint.

The story behind Gears of War paints a pretty bleak picture for humanity, thanks to some really nasty creatures that will send chills up and down your spine the first time you see them, and many times after that as well. The setting is the planet Sera, which is very much like Earth, just slightly more

PS2/Xbox Preview - 'Castlevania: Curse of Darkness'

Genre: Action/RPG
Publisher: Konami
Developer: Konami
Release Date: Fall 2005

If nothing else, Castlevania: Curse of Darkness answers one question I’ve had for a while about the Castlevania series. Simply put, it’s this: when you leave and come back into a room in a Castlevania game, where does the fresh wave of monsters come from? Is there a hidden wing of Dracula’s castle that’s entirely dedicated to the care, feeding, construction, and breeding of new monsters to replace the ones you’ve been hacking to bits?

Apparently, there is, and it’s staffed by people like Hector. As a Devil Forgemaster, Hector

The game is set in some African country. A coup d’etat and the country gets a dictator as its governor. And it slowly but steadily plunges into chaos. White farmers have been drawn from their land and now groups and fight with looter bands for the control over certain territories. The U.N.O. is involved and tries to give humanitarian help. As for the ex-rulers of the country they try to sit back. What makes the new game differ is that it’s up to the player to decide whose part to support. There are several starting points in

For years now, we have been waiting for a true Gran Turismo killer to come out and knock GT 3 off of its pedestal, and take the racing sim crown. There have been many attempts at this, but so far none have been able to dethrone Sony's masterpiece which has really stood the test of time. Not only that, but the latest version in their GT series, GT 4, is due out later this year, promising online play as well as an updated list of features. Before E3, it looked

Officers is a 3D real time strategy game with RPG elements that lets the player act as an officer commanding tank, infantry and sappers. Apart from these, the player will be able to take advantage of the AI controlled long-range artillery and air forces. Each country represented in the game has its realistic military structure, weapons and equipment. Starting as a platoon leader, the player gradually gets promoted up to the rank of the division commander. Promotion implies lager forces under direct control, matching objectives and greater scope – up to 1.500 troops engaged in a battle simultaneously. The storyline

The Wall is an FPS with an emphasis on the single player mode. However, it also contains RPG and RTS elements that greatly enhance gameplay. The player's weapons are customizable, both in function and appearance. An RTS-like ranking system and team-based missions give the player the sense that he is not alone, but operating as part of a much larger conspiracy. The player character has hidden abilities that are discovered and unlocked during the game. As in an RPG, his abilities improve as he accumulates experience. The non-linear mission structure provides a rich and

Back in 1998 (yes THAT long ago) a certain developer called Dynamix came into the market with StarSiege Tribes, which literally took the online community by storm. Many to date still credit the original StarSiege: Tribes as the title that made the move from regular deathmatch online action into the more organized cooperative, or an early version of team-based gameplay. A few years later, 2001 to be exact, Dynamix put their not-so-finished touches on Tribes 2, which was received with mixed feelings, not due
