When Electronic Arts first announced what was formerly known as their Marvel vs. EA project some months back, to say that fans—both of comics and of fighting games--were skeptical was an understatement. Already, EA was fighting a losing battle with popularity; the X-Men aside, the last time Marvel characters had been in a fighting game was Marvel vs. Capcom 2. A lot of people had been perfectly happy with that title, and had long awaited a sequel to it. This license (along with Capcom quitting the
Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer will be based on both the comic book series, credited as the longest running comic book series in history, as well as Twentieth Century Fox/Marvel Entertainment's highly anticipated movie sequel. The game is being developed by 2K's Visual Concepts studio and Seven Studios for next generation consoles, current generation consoles and handheld systems.
Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer is scheduled for a June 15, 2007 simultaneous release with the upcoming movie.
