About Judy

As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

20. 'System Shock' (PS4/XOne/PC)

After more than two decades, NightDive Studios are completely remaking the genre-defining classic from 1994, rebuilt from the ground up.

Joseph Doyle: System Shock is the predecessor to some of the best games of the early- to mid-2000s, such as the BioShock and Deus Ex series. While this next year will be chock full of games immersed in defined aesthetics and world-building, I'm looking forward to the type of escapism that System Shock offers. The gameplay demo also looks great!

Cody Medellin: We mentioned System Shock back in 2018, and while it skipped the 2019 "Most Anticipated" list, we're throwing it back here based on what we saw from the latest preview build. Time has been kind to the original story, but it'll be the updated visuals and tweaked mechanics that determine if this remake will be embraced as much as the original classic. Provided that the adherence to the original mechanics will still resonate with players today, this may be one of the year's better titles.

Tony "OUberLord" Mitera: As big of a fan of System Shock 2 as I am, I never did play the original game.  It's a blind spot for a game that pioneered more complex gameplay than what the FPS genre tended to be known for, and for a series that has seen its lineage go on with the BioShock and Deus Ex games.  This new remake retains the story from the original, but its gameplay is noted by the developers to be significantly changed.  With an engine change and plenty of feature creep under its belt, it will be nice to see the game finally arrive.
